feeling the love

Joey and I went to Knoxville this weekend to visit my SIL. We had an absolutely wonderful time. And when we came home, I read the dozens of supportive comments and Tweets in response to Friday's news. I don't know how to express to each of you how much your words mean to me. I knew all of you would be supportive, but your comments truly touched me - more than you could ever imagine. I appreciate that you recognize how difficult this was for Joey and I. It was, still is, and will continue to be one of the hardest decisions we've ever made.

Stephanie commented on Friday's post that she hopes I'll post about our journey here. I want everyone to know with a resounding YES that I am going to post everything here. There are many things I want to write about, and I think that the best way to do this is to have all of you ask me questions. Because honestly, I have no idea where to begin! So, what do YOU want to know? I'll start by answering the two that Kakunaa left on Friday's blog.

Are you excited? Have you started any paperwork?

Yes and no. Yes, we are VERY excited. No, we haven't started any paperwork. We plan to start the paperwork process next year. We want to ease into all of this. Our plan is to spend as much time as we need reading and doing research before we begin the paperwork process. We'll also use this time to save money.

I'm so thrilled for you and so excited to tag along on this journey. It's a process but a very rewarding process. I hope the paperwork and the home visits go quickly and you'll be match before you know it!

I am so happy for you. We are starting our paperwork in the next couple of weeks so maybe we can go down this road together. I'm with you...so excited and yet so nerve wracking!

I'm with you too Katie. We hope to hand in our application in a couple of weeks once we have the fee ready. Then the homestudy will be begin. I'm scared, nervous, but excited. It feels good to be happy about something again. I wish that for you too. When we went to the initial 'meet and greet' at the agency, the info and fees are very overwhelming. So just take it one step at a time. I lost it for a bit, but have to trust that this is OUR right path to our baby. Wishing you all of the best.

Wow Katie, I'm sorry I missed the big announcement but I just want you to know how thrilled I am for you. You sound as though a huge weight has been lifted, and the relief is palpable.

Hugs to you and hubby - can't wait to follow you along through your journey!

You should start an adoption fund and have family members contribute to it for Christmas. Much more useful than random sweaters you don't want!

So glad you are feeling supported *and* planning to share the journey with us. It's a huge step, so it's only natural that you need a little time to ease into it. But we're all so thrilled for you.

Oh this is wonderful. I'm glad you are going to keep us updated on the adoption plan. It will be very exciting for us too!

I'm so excited, too! I don't have good questions right now -- because most of them will be of the "haven't had a chance to think about it, yet" variety! :)

I missed telling you the other day that I wish nothing but the best for your adoption future!

And I guess because I'm always on the fence about adoption I'll ask the hard question I can't answer for myself. (I hope it's not out of line, and I would completely understand if this isn't something you want to answer right now).
Are you going to try to adopt a baby or open to an older child? and are you open to adopting a child that may not look like you or Joey (different race or nationality)? Again hope that's not too big of a question right of the gate!

So glad to hear that you're going to share your journey. I'm considering adoption too so it'll be exceptionally interesting to hear your experiences.

Lots of luck!!

Katie, I really do want to offer you huge kudos for taking this enormous step AND for sharing it with all of us! It gives those of who may be considering adoption a bit of hope. That we can make this decision and be OK. I'm excited to follow this journey :).

As for questions: I guess my big one is are you thinking domestic or international adoption?

Hi Katie,
I'm so glad you are going to continue blogging about your journey. I've heard adoption can be a challenging process, and it will be great to hear some first-hand accounts and advice along the way. Plus, I just want to hear the good news when you do get your own little one to love and treasure.

I guess I am also interested if you are thinking domestic or international.

Will you continue on the acupuncture and chinese herb route while proceeding with adoption? Or will you start BC to help control the cysts? Wishing you all the best :)

SO excited for you guys!!! Honestly the home study process was much easier and smoother than we expected. Once you guys are ready that is a good first step since you don't have to sign with an agency to complete the home study and that process can take 2-3mths, this way you have time to research agencies while the home study is in process. Hoping things go smoothly for you guys as you begin this process:)

I agree about the adoption fund for Christmas! It's a great idea!

My question: Are you and Joey going to try to adopt a girl or a boy? Or are you open to either one?

Love you boo! xo.

I think taking your time is the best thing you could possibly do! I would assume there is just as much research or more involved in adoption as there is in fertility treatments.... and that is A LOT! :)

I hope it all goes amazingly smoothly for you :)

I'm very excited for you guys & I'm so glad I'll be able to share your journey & learn from you, as this is something I may do myself in the future. You guys will be fantastic parents & any child will be overwhelmingly lucky to have you! xoxoxoxo

I, too, missed the initial announcement, so I'm a little late to the party with my congrats! But, hey, better late than never. I like the suggestion to ask for adoption funds instead of useless random Xmas gifts.

Can't wait to share this journey with you! Yay! :)

Glad you had a good time in Knoxville! Your decision is an exciting one. (And the paperwork can wait)!

I am so happy for you! Now the hard part, choosing an agency! Again, let me know if I can help!

Wow, I know nothing about adoption. How do you even start moving forward on that? Are you wanting to do an open one or closed? How do they even choose who they give each child to??

I'm SO excited to read about your journey through this process!!!!
