last day of "vaca"

Our one-night getaway to Tampa for the beach/Phillies game was great! AF was a bitch during the first half of the trip, but she calmed down long enough for me to enjoy the game (even though the Phillies lost). The next day was a train wreck. Not only did my previous company not pay me for my vacation time, but they also didn't pay me for a week of work--something they claim they don't even owe me. Of course, just as things were finally going right financially, we were pushed back down again. Things should work themselves out within the month, but I am still pretty annoyed at how everything worked out.

My old doctor sent me my records last week to take to my new doctor, which I think I've found. So, I am going to make an appointment for October, which will be eight months from my abnormal pap. I'm anxious to meet with a new doctor and discuss our options.

And speaking of babies, you ladies will LOVE this. Joey and I were invited to a barbecue yesterday afternoon. The girl is one of my best friends from high school, and she recently got married. She and her husband were the couple hosting. Another couple friend of theirs also showed up, my friend's sister, and this other girl we went to high school with (who I will refer to as Jackie). So there are three married couples, the host's sister, and Jackie. Jackie, who was a snotty bitch in high school, has a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter from one guy, and is preggers with her second baby from a different father. She has no job, is on welfare and food stamps, and lives with her mother. She spent the entire night talking about her pregnancy. How she really needs to find a good doctor that will take Medicaid. How she has lost "so much weight" with this second baby. She chomped on Doritos and a hamburger and talked about how she got this new job but probably won't be able to start because she "forgot" to take the drug test. She bitched about how she pays her mom $500 a month in rent, but also gives her mom the welfare money and the food stamps. She joked that she should have brought the beer in her fridge over for the rest of us, since she is "knocked up" (her words) and her mom's been in AA for three years.

But the best line?

All of us normal, married couples were talking about our weddings and honeymoons. She jumps in and says:

"Yeah? Well I got two kids! No seriously, they say third time's a charm. So I'm hoping the third guy that knocks me up will be a winner."

And that is what I leave you with this evening. Enjoy! (Joey and I both start work tomorrow.)

OF COURSE!

OF COURSE the crazy bitch (AF) would decide to make TODAY the worst day of my cycle. It's like she pinpointed the exact day of the month that she knew I would not want her to be here: The day of our mini beach vacation. UGH!!!

just checking in

Here is a good article about infertility treatments and insurance. Tomorrow is Advocacy Day! You can go to resolve.org to learn more about how to get involved.

In non-TTC news, Joey got a job! He'll be working as a merchandise supervisor at Planet Hollywood. He's pretty excited, especially after being unemployed for five months. I'm just excited about free Disney tickets.

All for now . . .

home, sweet home

We arrived in Orlando just before 1 a.m. on Saturday night / Sunday morning. Crossing the border from Georgia to Florida, I could feel the change in the air (the humidity, of course) and smell the citrus.

We're finally home!

Everything is either unpacked at my mom's or in storage. We switched our car insurance today and plan on getting our Florida licenses on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday is our mini vacation to Tampa for the Phillies/Rays game and we are staying on the beach at the Bilmar. Saturday we have a friends' barbecue to attend. And Sunday will be a day of rest before I start my new job on Monday. I'm nervous but really excited for this change.

As far as Joey's job search, still no luck. He didn't get the job he really wanted, so he was a little bummed about that. But I'm confident that whatever company he is supposed to be with, things will work out.

tonight

Tonight is my last night in Tennessee. 30 more minutes until I am no longer an employee at the major publishing house that shall not be named.

By this time tomorrow, I'll be on the road to Florida.

Here's to the next chapter in our lives!

seven days

One week until moving day, and not a single thing is packed. I don't even have boxes. Or packing paper. Or packing tape, for that matter.

Begin meltdown mode in 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . .

Joey had another interview with a company in Orlando yesterday. We should hear sometime next week about whether or not he has the job. This is the one he really wants, and the money, hours, and location would be ideal for us when starting a family.

We both agree that even though we are anxious to start trying again, we need to get settled at home first. Even if he does get this job offer, we still would not start really trying again for a few months. I want to be out of my probationary period at my new job before I go running in there and requesting maternity leave.

I'm so happy things are coming together, but I'm praying Joey gets this offer. It's the final piece to a puzzle that we've spent far too long putting together.

new beginnings

Switching doctors has me slightly nervous during this moving process. I've finally found a doctor that's been really behind me and aggressive with testing, and I have to leave her. My plan is to call sometime next week and find out how I can obtain my records, or if they can transfer them directly to my new doctor (whoever she may be).

Does anyone have suggestions on maybe a website I can visit to research gynos and REs?

where the heart is

I gave my notice at work today. It went surprisingly well. It's hard to believe that next week will be my last in Tennessee. I will miss . . . um, okay. No. No, I will not miss anything about living in this very backwards, hick state. I apologize if I'm offending anyone from Tennessee that's civilized [aka Katie]. More on my hatred of Tennessee in a later post.

JOB. Focus, Katie. My new job will be a promotion of sorts for me. I won't be working in trade publishing anymore (trade = general fiction/non-fiction in book-nerd lingo). I'll be editing textbooks for at-risk learners. I think this position will fulfill both my desire to help others and my knack for grammar. I certainly won't miss working with diva, bestselling authors. I will miss my amazing core group of coworkers, who make every day so fun and exciting.

I'll actually be working in Melbourne and commuting from Orlando. I'll be in an office, not a cube. But most importantly, I think I'll be happy. We'll be happy.

We'll be home.

two weeks

It's been two weeks since I've posted a blog. And in the next two weeks, Joey and I will be packing our things and moving back to Florida.

On Friday, I accepted a position with a publishing company here. I'm very excited things are finally falling into place. Now, we just need to find Joey some work.

I promise to post more details soon.
